The definition of a word can be easily found in a dictionary. But the dictionary definition really doesn't give the true meaning of that word. The Bible contains certain words that have real impact when we come to realize their true definition. This definition comes to life when we begin to think, speak and act based on what these words really mean.

Eve May 12, 2013

Today we celebrate mothers. The first mother recorded in the Bible was Eve. The name “Eve” means, “life” or “living”. When we think about it, that describes mothers perfectly. From the moment of conception, mothers carry life. Mothers will truly cultivate and protect life all the way through. This reflects back on the creator of life, God. Let’s look at God through the lens of a mother, the one who gives life. More info »

Raca May 19, 2013

“Raca” is an ugly, vicious word in the ancient Aramaic language of Jesus’ time. It and other words flew out of mouths in moments of anger. Just words, right? Jesus saw things differently. The words that flew out of the mouth revealed clearly the meaning and intent of the heart. The heart that gives birth to the words is what strikes the heart of another. Compassion May 26, 2013

Compassion. In ancient Hebrew it means to love and feel deeply for another. In ancient Greek it means to be affected with the same feeling as another. Compassion is a deep powerful word that drives us to act. As followers of Jesus we are called to have true compassion towards others in need. Logos June 9, 2013

Logos: Greek for ‘The Word”. The “Word of God” or the “Word of the Lord” is a common phrase used throughout the Bible. What is this “word”. When we read the Bible, we realize the “Word” is powerful and means far more than writings on paper. The Word of God gives life, convicts of sin, shows us the way to live and even died for our sins. Abba June 16, 2013

Abba: not the pop group from the 70’s and 80’s, rather the Aramaic word that translated to today’s English means, “daddy”. We rarely think of God as “daddy”, yet Jesus referred to God as “Father” or Abba more times in his four biographies than any other term. Do we see God as our perfect father? How can we as earthly fathers actually reflect this word “abba” and the person it represents in our own lives? More info »
