Summer Kids Week Recap

By: Admin on August 25, 2012

We just finished a great Summer Kids Week! We learned that Everything is Possible with God. We had 125 kids attend this year, several of which were learning about God for the very first time!

Each day we started with singing, where the kids learned songs, the daily Bible Point, Bible Buddy and the verse that went with the Bible Point. In smaller groups, the kids then went off to different stations. Pre-school children had crafts, games, Bible story, Bible adventure video and a yummy snack. The Elementary children had crafts and experiments, Bible adventure video, Bible story, games and a yummy snack. At each station, the leaders talked about the Bible Point, verse and how to trust God more.

Here are some of the highlights of the week:

  • 125 kids children attended!
  • We had over 70 volunteers! Thank you to everyone that volunteered in a variety of different ways to help make Summer Kids Week happen!
  • We collected $300 for Operation Kid-to-Kid to provide mosquito nets for kids in Africa to protect them them from Malaria. Each net cost $6 and covers 2 kids, so we are able to buy 50 nets and protect 100 children from Malaria!
  • We had 12 children accept Christ this week!

Here’s a recap of what the children learned each day:

Day 1
Our Bible Buddy for Monday was Pat the Bat. Bats look kid of strange, but they’re really cool. Pat reminded the kids that No Matter Who You Are.... Trust God! The Bible Story that day was about a Roman officer who told the soldiers what to do. But kids learned that God has even more power then the Roman Officer. The Bible verse we learned was 1 Samuel 16:7: “People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” We had a fun event at the end of the day called Will that launch? We launched four different items into the air using a catapult.

Day 2
Our Bible Buddy on Tuesday was Orville the Pig. Pigs are low to the ground, kind of chubby, and not able to fly. When people feel something impossible, they might say, “Yeah, right! When pigs fly!” But when we look at Orville, our flying pig (in an airplane), he can remind us that everything is possible with God. When you feel something is impossible, remember, No Matter How You Feel.... Trust God! Orville also reminds us of the Bible verse in John 14:1, “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust God.” In this story, Jesus brings a friend who has died back to life. I bet the friend’s family and others felt joy when this happened. No matter how you feel... trust God!

Day 3
Our Bible Buddy on Wednesday was Scout the Eagle. Eagles have humongous wings and loads of feathers to help them fly. Scout reminded us of the Bible verse in Isaiah 40:31, “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles.” God gives us strength to soar high on wings like eagles. Sometimes people do rotten stuff, they’re mean or bossy, or they try to make us feel bad. But God is bigger than all that. No Matter What People Do... Trust God! In this Bible story, the kids learn that people where mean to Jesus. They arrested him, bring him to court, and lie about Him. But Jesus stays strong. Jesus knows no matter what people do... trust God!

Day 4
Our Bible Buddy on Thursday was Apollo the Caterpillar. Who’d ever guess a pudgy caterpillar could fly? But these little crawlers are actually baby butterflies. They eat, and eat, and then they bundle into a cocoon where their body totally changes. When they come out... they can fly! Sometimes really awful stuff happens to us today. But in Romans 8:38, the Bible tells us: “I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.” When things look hopeless like caterpillar flying remember, No Matter What Happens... Trust God! In this Bible adventure, Jesus dies on the cross and then comes back to life. Jesus trusted that God would make good come from bad. Jesus knew that no matter what happens... trust God!

Day 5
Our Bible Buddy on Friday was Rockette the Flying Squirrel. Flying Squirrels sure do like to travel! They can fly or glide as far as half a football field. Rockette reminds us that No Matter Where You Are... Trust God! She also reminds us of our Bible verse, Joshua 1:9, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” In this Bible adventure, something happened after Jesus came back to life.
