LINK to the world

By: Admin on February 11, 2013

We believe in God and the Bible. Through faith in Jesus we have a relationship with God. We go to church and learn so much.

The question is: Is God touching the needs of the world through us? God wants to reach the world through us and has commanded us to go into all the world. God Himself has given us an incredible resource to be able to accomplish this mission: The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the link between God and us and the link between us and the world.

We can and should be the link between God and the world through the Holy Spirit.

Gift from God
Acts 1:4 & 5: 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

Jesus told his followers to wait for an incredible gift, the Holy Spirit, who would come soon after Jesus left the earth. Jesus had already talked about the Holy Spirit earlier, especially in John chapters 14 and 16.
Who is this "Holy Spirit"?
A counselor
One who would live in those who believed in Jesus
One who teach us and remind us of Jesus and the Truth
One who will give us peace and take away our fear
One who is going to show the world about sin, judgment and salvation through faith in Jesus - not only show but convince people about the greatest need: having a relationship with God
Basically: The Holy Spirit will be the true Link between God and the whole world

He is God and is a person, not the force, not electricity, not a representative of power, the Holy Spirit IS God. The Bible always refers to the Holy Spirit as a person, someone with emotions, intelligence, creativity and the ability to relate to and communicate with us.

The Holy Spirit would be someone who would reflect the true priorities of God and would work them into our own lives. These priorities are the Holy Spirit's power and that we are Jesus' witnesses.

Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Holy Spirit
Power and Link to God
This power and relationship translate into a total change of life based on God’s direct work in our own lives through the Holy Spirit. This enables us to be witnesses of Jesus

What is a "Witness"
One who has SEEN or EXPERIENCED an event or person
One who then TELLS what they have seen, heard and experienced

In our case: one who will tell what they have seen, heard and experienced in Jesus to the WHOLE WORLD:
Jerusalem
The current location of the followers of Jesus, their home
Where we are, the people in our own circle

Judea
The province in which they were living
Those around us with whom we are familiar and comfortable

Samaria
The neighbouring province, but with folks no one wanted to associate with
Those who are near, but with whom we are not comfortable, for whom we will need to make adjustments in order to enter into their lives and show the love of Jesus

To the Ends of the Earth
ANYWHERE the Holy Spirit leads us

This is the beauty of the message of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit: it is PORTABLE and UNIVERSAL

PORTABLE: can be taken everywhere
Anywhere. The message does not depend on which geographic location, economic situation, political system, size of family, ethnicity, language or anything. The message of Jesus, the core of God’s love, can be taken anywhere
Because of the power of the Holy Spirit, we can then present this message of Jesus in any context in a multitude of methods and He will help get the message through

UNIVERSAL: offered to everyone
Last week’s message dealt with the fact that we ALL are sinners and have ALL fallen short of the glory of God. We’re ALL in the same boat – our condition is universal
BUT: God’s gift of forgiveness, salvation and true change through faith in Jesus is freely offered to EVERYONE! Jesus died for EVERYONE and for ALL THE SINS of the world. The offer of this incredible gift is given to EVERYONE, and everyone who believes in Jesus receives this eternal life and relationship with God. Not everyone will accept, but the offer is open to ALL.

This is why we are to be witnesses to EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE. And we can do it by letting the Holy Spirit do His work in our lives.

So this week, and for the rest of this year, let's be Jesus' witnesses to everyone, everywhere!
