God does not tell you what He is going to do, He reveals to you who He is

By: Admin on May 3, 2014

"God does not tell you what He is going to do, He reveals to you who He is.”

I’m sitting at a local coffee shop (as I often do on Friday mornings) getting caught up on emails and thinking through the events of this past week. I often use these mornings to take a much needed step back from the minute-to-minute, hour-to-hour and day-to-day details of life, family, work, faith and ministry. I take a step back and ask God to do what I can’t for the people I care for.

Most Friday mornings I read, pray, and turn to God for a perspective on important issues and decisions that need to be made. I’m being reminded this morning of my own impatience.

I've had a week filled with a number of people who need to make life-altering changes in their lives; all of which start with a few important baby steps in the right direction. For a few of these individuals, these first steps seem overwhelming and ominous. Some have been wrestling with their demons for months and others for just weeks, but all of them need a spiritual prompting and the courage to move from where they are, to God’s preferred future for them… and they won’t.

I know that we all have people like this in our lives. Maybe it’s a coworker, a family member, or a close friend. Maybe their demon is alcohol, or greed, or pride, or an unwillingness to deal with a broken relationship. How do we respond to them? Maybe a better question is, how would God have us respond to them?

This week, I confess my own sinful lack of patience. Oswald Chambers reminded me this morning that, “Have you been asking God what He is going to do? He will never tell you. God does not tell you what He is going to do He reveals to you who He is.” That is my new prayer for these people and maybe it can be yours as well. “God, reveal to them who you are.”

Although the solution to their current dilemma maybe just a few simple steps away, the solution to where their lives are headed can only be seen as they allow God to reveal who He is.
