Connecting a Real God with Real Life

As followers of Jesus we have a clearly defined set of beliefs. We call these beliefs "doctrine". Most of the time we hear this word, “doctrine” and immediately dismiss it as boring, irrelevant and only for professional scholars, but doctrine really does connect us with God because it answers those fundamental questions we have.

What we believe will directly affect our lives.  Correct belief = Correct Living.

"We believe in one God". (What we believe, Waverley Church)

We believe that someone is in absolute control and is aware of our lives and our world.  He is a person with emotions, intelligence and the ability to relate to us.

Who is God? How do I relate to Him? Can I really trust Him? The study of God, called "theology," connects us with our true source of life, love and power.

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning GOD”

Bible assumes the existence of God – so do we. Not here to argue with you.
God is present at the beginning - implying He was there BEFORE the beginning
The Story begins with God

God in the Bible:
Created everything
Sustains everything
Establishes right and wrong
Deals justly with those who do right and those who do wrong
General author of the Bible
Has worked actively in history, events and people
He is a person with emotions, intelligence, creativity and personality
He is God the Trinity – ONE God yet at the same time three distinct people in perfect unity

God the Father (Spirit)
The Creator and Sustainer of everything in the universe (Genesis 1, Psalm 33, Psalm 104)
The One who receives all the power and glory, the One who we revere and worship (Psalm 100, John 4:21-24, Revelation 4:11)

God the Son (Jesus Christ)
The One through whom everything in the universe was created (John 1, Colossians 1)
The One who takes away our sin and the punishment for our sin (Romans 3, Hebrews 9 & 10)
The Head of the church (Ephesians 1:22, Colossians 1:18)
Focus of our life (Colossians 3:17)
Immanuel - “God with us” (Isaiah 7, Matthew 1)

God the Holy Spirit
The One who gives us strength, power, words, wisdom and comfort on a 24/7 basis. (John 14, 15 & 16)
He actually lives in the person who has faith in Jesus (1 Corinthians 3:16, Ephesians 1:13 & 14)

What do I do with this? KNOW GOD!

Know God – and then I will truly know myself

Know God – and then I will truly live in a way that will bring true satisfaction and true victory no matter what.

Know God – and then I will be able to make sense out of the good and bad in this world and ultimately find my purpose and place in life

It all has to do with GOD!
