Beyond Me

By: Admin on September 11, 2013

We like to think of ourselves as the center of the solar system. The truth is that the sun is the center of the solar system and it is a giant ball of hot gas. If you think of yourself as the center of the solar system, you have to consider the reality of yourself, then.

When we just focus on ourselves, we set some hard limits because we are simply limited. We have very little control over anything. Trying to get everything and hold on to everything is impossible. The things we do manage to keep will eventually wear out, break down or go out of style. When what we try to possess for ourselves is people, they'll bail as soon as they figure us out.

Frustration, dissatisfaction and failure is the natural result of being self-centred and selfish. We will not get far, we won't go beyond.

Jesus has made us completely different:

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvellous light; (1 Peter 2:9 NASB)

‘Me” is selfish, self-centered and full of myself
‘Me’ only looks out for my own benefits, often at the cost of someone else
‘Me’ only takes credit and deflects blame to someone else, mostly to those who cannot defend themselves
‘Me’ only follows my own passions and vision and ignores anything else, even if that is better
‘Me’ only has my own, personal, small, limited resources

Based on this truth about who I really am because of Jesus I now change what I do and go far beyond ‘Me’. I proclaim the Excellencies of God. Because of Jesus:
I am full of Jesus and focus on Him, His thoughts, His ways
I look out for Jesus well-being by looking out for others’ well-being
I give Jesus all the thanks and credit. When I fail, I confess my failures and Jesus forgives me and cleanses me
I follow Jesus passion and vision and ignore all the stuff and temptation that seeks to pull me away from him and his way
I have access to all the resources that God has to offer through the person and work of Jesus.

Look at yourself and how God wants to take you beyond "me".
